IELTS results

Our students: where they started, where they finished, and how long it took.

Any school can say its IELTS classes work. We would rather show you. These are two of our students’ results, with every skill score we have, including the one that went down.

ESL and TOEIC results

The scores below are not IELTS. Four are percentages from our own placement and post tests, taken at the start, partway through and at the end of a course. One is a TOEIC score. The letters are CEFR levels, the same scale used above.

Shintaro moved from 38.7% on the placement test to 67% at the first post test and 75% at the final one, with the clearest gains in listening, speaking and grammar. His teachers flagged writing structure and sentence development as the things to keep working on.

Tom, TOEIC student from South Korea View the result poster

Tom went from 550 to 600 in four weeks. At that level a test-taker handles routine workplace communication, ordinary social and business conversation and straightforward texts, while fast dialogue and complex grammar are still work in progress.

Placement test 68% CEFR B1
Final post test 85% CEFR C2
+17

Wayne averaged 68% at placement and 85% at the final test, with strong reading and listening and a marked jump in grammar. His writing went the other way, from 50% to 40%, and we are showing that because it happened.

Bang

Final post test 85% CEFR B2
+30

Bang went backward before he went forward: 55% at placement, 54% at the first post test, then 85% at the final one. The strongest movement was in grammar and speaking. The dip is shown rather than hidden, because twelve weeks is rarely a straight line.

Muath, ESL student from Saudi Arabia View the result poster

Muath

Placement test 23% CEFR A1
1st post test 27%
Final post test 72% CEFR B1

Muath started at 23% and was still at 27% by the first post test, which is what an acclimatization period looks like on a chart. The final test came back at 72%, driven by vocabulary, structural accuracy and spoken fluency.

How to read these scores

  • IELTS is scored from 0 to 9 in half bands. Your overall band is the average of your four skills, rounded to the nearest half band, so one weaker skill pulls the total down and one strong skill lifts it.
  • The letters are CEFR levels, the European scale many universities and employers also use. B1 is confident everyday English; B2 is around the level many universities set for entry.
  • These results are not a promise. How far you move depends on where you start, how many weeks you stay and how much you put in. If you need a particular band by a particular date, there is a course built for exactly that. See the IELTS Double Guarantee
